Clothing Closet Serves Local Community of Strawberry Plains, TN
Face it, we've all been there. Your son or daughter comes home from school and hands you a note from a teacher. No, your child isn't in trouble. Something at school is coming up and special clothing is required. No matter the occasion or for everyday people need clothes from time to time. Kids especially seem to need clothes for back-to-school, pictures or school color day.
Most parents "grin and bear it" and head to the nearest shopping mall. But what about the parents who can't afford these items? What are they to do?
The people of Strawberry Plains now have an answer.
Located in space donated by Strawberry Plains United Methodist Church, Webster House,at 3173 Old Andrew Johnson Hwy. in Strawberry Plains. Hope for Healing.Org is a 501c3 nonprofit serving the Strawberry Plains community in both Jefferson and Knox counties.
"Clothing is donated by people in the community for the people of the community. It's really all about helping your neighbor." says Rev. John Crabtree, pastor of Strawberry Plains United Methodist Church. "Clothing is given on a first-come, first-served basis."
So who uses the clothing closet?
According to Allie, a clothing closet volunteer, people from all walks of life use the closet. "In the past we've had older men and women, younger adults needing clothes for work and families with children. There are no income requirements. It's open to everyone."
The closet is open on the first and third Tuesday of each month from 10:00 am - 12:00 p.m. and on the fourth Saturday of each month from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm. Other times are available by appointment.
