Come to our bi-annual self-defense class. Learn how to move and protect yourself in a confrontation. Be educated on the warning signs of an abusive personality and the cycle of domestic violence. Gain new awareness skills that may prevent you from being targeted. Hope for Healing.Org is offering a free, three week self-defense class beginning on the first Monday night in October from 6-9 PM inside the fellowship hall of Strawberry Plains United Methodist Church. The schedule is as follows: Night #1: Classroom time. Learn about the cycle of domestic violence and gain new awareness skills. Night #2: Learn new moves to protect yourself against a potential assailant. Night $3: Pad up and practice these new skills with a specially suited and padded off-duty police officer. To earn a certificate of completion, attendees will need to attend for the entire 3 weeks. These skills are applicable and adaptable to real-life situations. Accommodations will be made for anyone with a disability. While no one can guarantee that you won't be targeted by an abuser we do know that by learning skills you can significantly reduce your risk of victimization. Class space is limited.
